They knew he loved this wonderful event and they opened their hearts to Rumple. But to his surprise he was very much missed by everyone. Unfortunately, an unexpected situation occurred and he no longer felt he had the courage to leave outdoors without his disguise. Rumple was super excited because the only event of the year in which he goes out in the daylight was coming. He thought he blended in with the garbage but he was noticed by everyone. He would only leave the drain when it was dark and with a banana peel on his head. Unfortunately, he only had a one way conversation. Rumple was always alone and decided to make a friend out of garbage he found. ![]() He saw everyone normal and he was scared he won't be accepted into the community. He lived in a drain hiding from everyone. Rumple was different because of his green skin color, three strands of hair, 5 crooked teeth and one foot was bigger than the other. Let’s celebrate our individuality!Ī perfect book to share with children to teach them that we are all different and have our own personal flaws. I would have read this book no matter what, simply because Matthew Gray Gubler wrote and illustrated it, but it’s so much more incredible than even I expected! This debut has a wonderful message for kids but people who have aged out of childhood also need to be reminded that it’s okay to be different. Anyone who has ever felt like they don’t belong, aren’t good enough or are too different to be accepted by others will relate to Rumple and hopefully realise, as Rumple does, that “ Everyone is weird and that’s what makes us great”. Let’s face it we’re all weird in our own way. I adore Rumple and love that this book is a celebration of weirdness. He spends his time watching people interacting with one another and enjoying their lives but he is desperately alone so he makes his own friend out of trash, Candy Corn Carl. ![]() Rumple lives in a drain beneath the town, hiding from the people he’s sure will reject him because he’s weird. I need to read this book every day for the rest of my life! Also, Rumple Buttercup is my new best friend!
